More Journey 2011 Introductions!

Billy Dillard Hey everyone! My name is Billy Dillard; I am a sophomore at Clemson University. I was born and raised in Anderson, South Carolina and currently live in Pendleton, South Carolina. Around December of this past year God began to completely blow up my comfort zone with the thought of a mission trip. He really began to open my eyes to the fact that foreign missions are NOT optional but an ESSENTIAL part of following Him (Matt 28:19). I knew there was no way I could not say I am called to missions when there is over 2 billion people that have never heard of Jesus. So I knew I was going to go on a mission trip, I just had no idea where. About this time I began to develop a friendship with a guy named Edward Phillips. We began to have conversations about mission trips and he began to tell me about the Journey Internship, which he did last year. He told me I should think about applying for it and at first I was very hesitant. After praying about it, I knew it was what God wanted me to do, so I went for it. This past January I found out I was accepted for the internship. Throughout this preparation process, God has shown me a lot. One huge thing He has been teaching me is being satisfied with sacrificing worldly pleasures for the sake of His name. It’s easy for me to get caught up in what I won’t have in Kenya this summer, but God is showing me that He is enough and is my complete satisfaction and joy; apart from Him I have nothing. It is very easy to know this but to experience it is a completely different thing. Another thing God has been really showing me lately is how to love and invest in people for the sake of His name. I currently lead a middle school small group at a church called Newspring in Anderson, SC. Over the past few months God has really shown me to go completely out of my way to invest in what He is doing in my small group kid’s lives and how to love them unconditionally. I really believe one reason God has shown me so much of this through my small group kids is so that I can continually give Him glory by investing what He is doing in them and so this can transition to the time I will be in Kenya this summer. I want to be able to glorify God by displaying love to everyone I come into contact with over there and be committed to the work He is going to do over there. I do not want to invest time, energy, finances, resources and effort merely into Kenya but into the kingdom of Jesus through serving Him in Kenya. The thing that I am most excited about is being able to invest in something bigger than myself; the Kingdom of God. I really want every heartbeat, every breath, every second of my life to be for His glory and for the advancement of His kingdom. I really believe the Journey Internship I will be doing this summer will help accomplish that. The sake of the gospel is all worthy of our life and death and it is definitely worth ten weeks of my summer. Through this internship I really want to know and experience more of Jesus. I am very excited about having all distractions I am so familiar with today being taken away in Kenya, to be able to better focus on Him. I really believe God is going to do some awesome things this summer and cannot wait!

Sara Furnivall Hey Everyone! My name is Sara Furnivall and I am from Warsaw Indiana. I found out about the Journey Internship a few months prior to applying. I was thinking about going the summer of 2011 and just decided to go the next summer. Well, God had other plans for me. I went to Passion 2011 and ended up going to a meeting for Choose to Invest. While at this meeting, I was completely overwhelmed with God’s presence. This is what He was calling me to do, and I was sure of that! I applied the day I got home and got accepted! God has been teaching me so much through applying and raising support. He has taught me to be patient through all of the fund raising, as well as knowing what it really means to just do what you can and give the rest to Him! This is so true, and I definitely experienced this! He has taught me so much about what it means to be bold, and how to lead with boldness. Through this, I have put all of my trust in God more than I ever have before! I cannot express to you how excited I am to get to go to Kenya! I have never been on a mission trip before, so I don’t really know what to expect, but I know it’s going to be life changing! I’m so excited to get to work with kids and babies! They are my passion, and I cant get enough!! I have never been out of the country, so I’m super excited to see more of God’s beautiful creation!! Finally, I cannot wait to be a part of a family that is just so on fire for Christ, and so passionate about what they do! I thank god for making me a part of something so much bigger than myself!
