True joy found in Christ

Upon being asked to write this blog, I had never taken time to fully dwell on the past 16 days. Words cannot even begin to describe the Journey our team has already been on. These words do not do justice to the spiritual growth our team has experienced. These words do nothing. Words that are bound and hindered by our weak human understanding. These words cannot convey our own individual Journey. God is unfathomable. His power is immeasurable. His love is incomprehensible. And His faithfulness reigns forever. It has been only four days that we have been in East Africa, but it seems like a lifetime. With what little material possessions the Africans have, they make up for it in joy. They are never ceasing to smile. They never cease to laugh. And they never cease to be generous. Simply by spending time with them, they have taught me so much about life. Our joy is not found in what we wear. Our happiness is not rooted in the memories we make. Our satisfaction is not placed in the friendships we have. Our fulfillment is not made full by the things of this world. The one and only thing we need is Jesus. The only thing that gives us life is the love of Jesus and without Him we are dead. What more do we want? Is not life more than food? And the body more than clothing? Is Jesus the sole fulfillment in our lives? Or is He simply sloppy seconds in our appetite for ourselves?

Through the people I have met in East Africa and the interns I am doing life with, God has put a fire in my soul to love Him more, to position Him as the first and only portion of my life. My prayer moving forward is that all of us would know the love of Christ more. That we would lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely. That we would run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith. I’m super excited about what God has in store for us for the rest of the summer and for our families at home.
