J2013 is officially back from the first community! The only phrase coming to mind as I write this post is, “God is FAITHFUL”. His faithfulness is evident in the overwhelming growth of the 252 team. It’s painted beautifully in the red dirt roads we walked daily, alongside our Kenyan brothers and sisters. It was demonstrated through J2013 as they boldly taught the virtue of grace in the schools. God’s faithfulness was orchestrated through the Kingdom relationships that were built over the past few days, despite age, gender, race, and culture.
This week was a week of firsts for many of the members of our team. I don’t think any of the interns knew exactly what to expect before arriving at the first school. For the first time, many of them saw the joy of the Lord through 50 Kenyan children anxious to learn about the grace Jesus offers. It was beautiful to watch the Lord so clearly speak through the members of our team as they lead alongside our Kenyan friends in the classrooms. Whether teaching a lesson or playing a game outside, the joy of the Lord was so evident not only in the children, but also in our interns. It’s been such a blessing to watch each of them step into the role the Lord has specifically called them to this summer. I am truly humbled to be walking along side this group of bold, yet humble leaders.
Outside of teaching in the schools, our team has truly begun to develop and invest in deep relationship and community. Between preparing meals and building relationships with the Rejoice team, it has been incredible to watch this group truly dive into the Journey experience. It’s been cool to watch two communities mesh together, and truly become one. As the days past during our time in the first community, I began to watch the Lord break through the barrier of language and culture, and unite two groups together through a common desire to know Jesus and make him known. Leaving the first community was bittersweet, but we are so expectant for what the Lord has for our team throughout the rest of the summer.
As we traveled back to the Invest house, a need for rest and re-fueling was evident in our community. God has been so faithful to provide a day of Sabbath, rest, and processing for our team. It’s a beautiful thing that on the 7th day God didn’t rest because He needed it, but rather because He knew that His people would. Today we are resting in the calmness and peace that The Lord so deeply desires for His people. As for the next few days, we are beginning to prepare for our second community. Please join us in prayer as we lift up the relationships built in our last community. Pray for God’s faithfulness in the development of Rejoice Project in the schools. That Jesus’ name would continue to be made known in this community. Please pray for our team as we continue to rest our bodies as well as our hearts before we head into Community 2. Pray that our team would continue to be reminded of the faithfulness of God as we prepare to transition into a new community.
“Let us acknowledge the LORD; let us press on to acknowledge him. As surely as the sun rises, he will appear; he will come to us like the winter rains, like the spring rains that water the earth.” Hosea 6:3
