I am from Destin, Florida and am a freshman at Samford University where I am studying elementary education. God has given me a heart for missions and particularly over the last few years a great love for the people of Africa. I feel more than blessed and absolutely humbled that the Lord has called me to serve under Choose to Invest this year as He continues to teach me more of Who He is and who I am because He is God.
Born in Charleston, raised in Atlanta, currently in school at Samford University in Birmingham, AL. (sophomore...junior almost!) I went to Africa the summer after my sophomore in high school and fell in love. Since, I have taken every opportunity I have to go back. This will be my 5th trip going to Africa, and I am beyond excited. It was truly just a "God thing" that I signed up one night. On what seemed like a whim I made the decision to apply because the Journey internship had been on my heart. After several close friends mentioned it and encouraged me in a span of just a few days, I felt such an overwhelming peace that this was where I was supposed to be. I never looked back, knowing that if I was in the center of God's will for me, the details would fall into place. It has already been such a period of growth and learning to fully lean on and trust in a Provider that is faithful. My heart is so ready to be back in a place it calls home, and I am expectant for the incredible things God has for me and the other interns this summer. It is such an honor to have the privilege to go and grow in love and fellowship with such an amazing and global community of Christ.
As I write this, there is a quote that sticks out to me: “God does not called the equipped, He equips the called.” I don’t remember who said that, but as we have gotten ever closer to going to Africa, God has been equipping and preparing me in such amazing ways. As an English Education major at the University of Northern Iowa, I have grown in better understanding what God has called me to do this summer, and in the future. He has been continually revealing that even in the state that I live, yes Iowa, he is working and moving. I have had a desire to serve in Africa for a very long time, and the doors have not opened until this point. I am constantly reminded that he has called me to go to East Africa for such a time as this. I don’t know what will take place this summer, but God is in control and I am so excited to see what he will do in, and through me. He has called me to this time and place for a purpose. I know that there are times that I may doubt or worry, but God holds my future and has given me a desire to serve the people of Africa. I am very excited for the Journey ahead!
