As we were praying for wisdom and clarity of vision for Kimbilio, one of the things we wrestled with a lot was in regards to the location. Where would God have us find land and build a home for the orphaned in East Africa. Selfishly, the inclination was to find a place that looks and feels like the Africa most people have in their minds; tall, dry, grassy prairie land with acacia tress off in the distance. That place exists and there is a lot of land available there but we just didn't have a peace about it. We also thought about the mountainous area that truly is one of the most beautiful places we've ever seen. We could easily imagine ourselves waking up every morning to the sunrise above the mountain peeks and being very happy there!
As we continued to pray and ask God that He would reveal His plans and not our own desires, we were led to a place north of Nairobi, out of the areas we were familiar with and to a place that we believe He desires for us to take Kimbilio. Most of you know that Kimbilio means refuge in Swahili and as we prayed about what that means and how that plays in to every decision we make, it became clear where we were supposed to go. Our intent with the children we will one day house is to minister and care for them in such a way that they experience God's glory, grace, and the refuge that can only be found in Him.
We are looking to purchase 10-15 acres in an area that will allow us to grow and harvest almost continually throughout the year because of the consistent rainfall and temperatures. The area is very conducive for supporting a self-sustaining home for orphans and is becoming known as a horticulture center. There are schools, medical facilities, grocery stores, and locally owned shops in the area as well. God directed our steps and brought us to a place that sits in the shadows of a majestic mountain, surrounded by green rolling hills, has a supply of clean water, and that physically attests to the glory of God in a unique way. The goal for us is to set Kimbilio in a place where clean water, access to food and medical care are not our challenges so that our focus can be on the physical and spiritual development of a new generation, armed and equipped to live for His glory and made whole by His grace and love.
We are excited about Phase I and the process of finding and securing a plot of land that we pray God will use to nurture and grow the hearts of a generation in Africa in a way that breaks the cycle and strongholds that lead to a growing number of orphaned children. Our prayer is that Invest's Run for Orphans event on March 31st is not only a major source of funding towards our Phase I goal of $60,000, but that God would use this event to build up an army of people who stand behind the vision and partner with us to help make it a reality.
